Maria Lassnig is one of Austria’s best-known artists and undoubtedly considered one of the most important painters of our time. She spent a considerable part of her life outside Austria in the major art metropolises of Paris, New York and West Berlin. These periods spent abroad were of great importance both for her artistic development as well as for her reception as an international artist.
In autumn 2027, the Berlinische Galerie will present a comprehensive exhibition dedicated to Lassnig’s life and work in Paris, New York and Berlin. Across 850 square metres, the exhibition will not only trace the three stages of her life through paintings, drawings and animated films, but also shed light on Lassnig’s artistic networks in the respective cities. The exhibition is being developed in cooperation with the Maria Lassnig Foundation.
