Raoul Hausmann (1886–1971) is a leading figure in the artistic avant-garde of the 20th century.
Throughout his life this radical innovator challenged conventions of every kind. As one of the founders of Berlin’s Dada movement he co-invented collage, devised synaesthetic apparatus, penned experimental texts, explored the relationship between body, sound and space in his performances and used photography to link vision with haptics. The Berlinische Galerie marks its 50th anniversary by showing this uniquely versatile 20th century oeuvre, including more than 200 key works from international collections and the museum’s own holdings.
