The collections complement each other perfectly because they both focus on current Berlin artists. Whereas the State Museum has been collecting contemporary work in addition to classical modern and post-war art since the 1970s, the ‘Kunst im Bau’ collection was relatively recently established in 2002 in conjunction with Kunstfabrik am Flutgraben for Shell House, the Berlin headquarters of GASAG. With numerous works from artists active in Berlin, the exhibition provides a panorama of contemporary standpoints in painting, photography, graphics and installations.
