Artists John Bock and Heiner Franzen are connected not only by a long-standing friendship but also by a shared passion for cinema. John Bock (*1965) is known for expansive installations that combine performance, sculpture, and film. For many years, he has also been creating elaborate feature films in a range of genres, including westerns, horror, and road movies. Heiner Franzen (*1961) produces process-based drawings, spatial installations, and minimalist video works that reference film history both formally and thematically—from early animation to Hollywood classics like Stanley Kubrick’s The Shining. Together with Stefanie Heckmann, Head of Fine Arts Collection, they will discuss their work featured in the current exhibition “Psychonauts” and explore the artistic appropriation of cinematic imagery.
