To mark the 50th anniversary, the Berlinische Galerie presents selected works by female architects in the newly designed collection display under the section “Comrade Architect, Colleague Architect: Women Build Berlin, the Capital of the GDR”. These women played a pivotal role in shaping East Berlin into the capital of the GDR. Among the most influential was Iris Dullin-Grund, a close friend of author Brigitte Reimann and the inspiration for the title character in Franziska Linkerhand.
As part of the accompanying program, actress Katja Riemann will read selected excerpts from the novel. Franziska Linkerhand tells the story of a young architect striving to create livable spaces – while clashing with the rigid framework of socialist urban planning.
Dr. Angela Drescher, editor of the unabridged new edition of Franziska Linkerhand and Brigitte Reimann’s diaries (published by Aufbau Verlag), will provide an introduction to the reading.
In cooperation with the WIA Women in Architecture Festival 2025.
