For the 50th anniversary of the Berlinische Galerie the artist Daniel Hölzl marks the entrance of the museum with the temporary site-specific intervention “soft cycles”. Hölzl’s installation responds to the museum’s distinctive architecture and to the work “marked space – unmarked space” by the artist Fritz Balthaus, built in 2004 after a competition for art in the urban environment.
Hölzl and Balthaus share a deep interest in engaging artistically with architecture – their works are often site-specific and situated in public space. In conversation with Linus Lütcke, project manager at the Berlinische Galerie, two artistic positions from different generations come into dialogue.
