Raoul Hausmann (1886–1971) was one of the most innovative avant-garde artists of the Modernist era. His desire to cast aside everything as we know it and replace it with “tomorrow” made him a multi-media artist of the first hour. As a Dadaist he co-invented collage, designed synaesthetic apparatus, penned experimental texts, explored the links between body, sound and space in his performances and added a haptic dimension to vision in his photography. The Berlinische Galerie will mark its 50th anniversary by showing this uniquely versatile 20thcentury oeuvre, including key works from international collections and the museum’s own holdings.
