Klaus Nomi just before a performance, Nina Hagen in Studio 54, backstage at a drag show – from West Berlin to New York, Rolf von Bergmann (1953–1988) recorded queer subculture and the vibrant art, fashion and club scene of the 1970s and 1980s. His photographs depict stage acts, moments behind the scenes and portraits of artists like Divine, John Waters and Debbie Harry. The exhibition, with about 160 works from his estate as well as photographs by contemporaries, is the first to turn a broad spotlight on this as yet little-known artist.
