Film premiere and talk

Forecast Mentorships and Berlinische Galerie host a screening of “Tomorrow Morning, I’m Leaving”, a new work by artist and filmmaker Mahesh Subramaniam. This first public viewing offers an exclusive opportunity to encounter the work as it emerges from an intensive process of experimentation and exchange with his mentor, artist and filmmaker Keren Cytter.

The short film traces a man’s last day in Bengaluru, a city where he has lived for years but never quite managed to call home. Before leaving for good, he borrows a ritual from a neighborhood glass workshop: carrying a small mirror to the places and people he is about to lose, hoping the glass might hold what he cannot. Blurring documentary and fiction, the film reflects on memory, belonging, displacement, and the elusive nature of home.

The premierealso brings the wider Forecast community together for a special live program: following the screening, Mahesh Subramaniam and Keren Cytter will be joined in conversation by Forecast alumni artist Bjørn Melhus (Mentor, 2016-17), choreographer Gustavo Gomes (Mentee, 2022-23), and curator Renan Laru An (Mentee, 2016-17). Together, they will reflect on the making of the work, the mentorship process, and the ways artistic ideas can evolve through sustained exchange and collaboration.

The film will then remain on view at the Berlinische Galerie throughout the weekend, giving audiences additional opportunities to discover the work.

Forecast is a Berlin-based platform dedicated to facilitating, mentoring, and promoting trailblazing creative practices and audacious artistic practitioners. Since its inception in 2014, Forecast has brought together artists and creative thinkers from around the world with accomplished mentors, offering them the time, space, and support to develop ambitious ideas and bring new projects to fruition. Selected through an open call, participants work closely with their chosen mentors to develop an idea into a realized work, with the process culminating in public presentations and exchanges with wider artistic communities.

Forecast is a project by Skills e.V., supported by the Federal Government Commissioner for Culture and the Media.
